Next on my list: Mason&Dixon by Thomas Pynchon! I've been reading a lot of William Faulkner lately (Sound and the Fury, As I Lay Dying, Absalom Absalom) so it should be no trouble. Pynchon's Gravity's Rainbow remains virtually unreadable for me, but some of his other novels (Inherent Vice, Bleeding Edge, V, Vineland) were easy enough to "grok".

My new weekend project: I'm going to re-implement the #event feature of oldpoi

People will be able to create events, which will also act like a textboard thread where people can RSVP or post comments. An event page will link directly to the "stage" where the event will be hosted. People can view a calendar overview, or a simple index of upcoming events.
Anonymity, name, or tripcode will all be permitted.

I'm considering allowing the event host to also select a giko to appear next to their event, like an avatar on old-style messageboards :-)

There will be an RSS feed that will post an entry at midnight daily if there are upcoming events that day, and 1 hour before an event; the RSS feed will be linked with the #gikopoi IRC channel.

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas, lmk -- anything and everything welcome!

Dokuwiki has a feature called "namespaces" -- they're like a directory of pages, e.g. ":games:gikopoi" would look like /games/gikopoi . It also has tags -- whereas a page can only have one namespace, it can have as many tags as you want, and doesn't affect the URL.

I think using "namespaces" for things like SJIS characters, websites, software, kopipe makes a lot of sense. Maybe if 5 or more pages are properly part of a category, they could go in a name space. Then, for something like "shii", the page could link to sjis/shii and people/shii . See the "games" for a good example. If there's only one page about shii and it's about the SJIS character, then "shii" can redirect to "sjis/shii" and "shii" can become a disambiguation page when more "shii" articles appear.

While we're restructuring everything from the ground up, sometimes the direction to build in isn't clear. So hearing what other people think about this seems like a good idea to me. Thoughts?

Does anybody else do this? I usually set my microwave to run for eight hours as my alarm clock. The humming in the background helps out me to sleep. The continuous dings every 3 or so minutes after the wave finishes wake was me up. And since I have to walk out to the kitchen to turn that off it's pretty effective at getting me out of bed.
I once put a large, frozen, block of oatmeal in there and breakfast was ready for me and my neighbors in the morning.
I would honestly recommend this if you don't mind the higher power bill.

Ok bros who else has seen this absolute banger of a work? We just watched it + the specials in Gikopoi, pretty good all around. It's an interesting analysis of what a post-human civilization may look like. It's very deep and pretty dark, but the pastels, whimsical attitude of the show, and cute fairies distract from that. I advise against spoiling yourself before you go deeper into this thread. The first arc in the series is actually the last arc of the chronology, and the last arc of the series is actually the first arc of the chronology. It's very jumbled and takes time to pick it all apart.

1. Internet Relay Chat, or IRC, is a protocol for communication between:
First. Servers, which carry the communication; and
Second. Clients, which are connected to servers, through which they communicate with each other.

First. May be grouped into networks, which allow channels to be shared;

10. There is no single make of client; instead there is a variety of types. Ones I've used are:
mIRC: For Windows. Proprietary shareware with a $20 license fee after 30 days.
Pidgin: For Windows and Linux. Is also a client for many other chat protocols, but is slightly different from more conventional IRC clients.
Trillian: For OS X, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android. Proprietary, has a free version and a paid version without ads, resembles an IM client much more than an IRC client. Is also a client for its in-house chat protocol.
HexChat: For Windows. FOSS version of XChat, which has a proprietary Windows version that requires payment. Past a certain point, will clear old messages as new messages come in. Has support for mIRC color codes, but not for Chinese characters.
Irssi: For Linux. A Text Based client, unlike the 4 others, which are GUI clients. Not recommended for new users.
There are also other clients that I haven't used:
Chatzilla (an add-on for Firefox), XChat (FOSS for Linux), WeeChat, Quassel, AdiIRC, etc.
11. For connecting on the go or from foreign devices, use KiwiIRC (kiwiirc.com) or Mibbit (mibbit.com), or see if the IRC network provides a web chat.
12. To find IRC channels, use irc2go.com. Most clients will include lists of networks with them.
13. To connect to IRC, it is needed to provide:
First. A server key or password. Very few servers will have this.
Second. A server address. Use the address the network provides for the whole network; a server will be automatically assigned to you.
Third. A nickname or nick. If your nick is already in use, the server will let you join with numbers added to the end.
14. Once you have connected, you will receive a Message Of The Day. This will usually include ground rules for the network and helpful tips.
15. From this point on, type "/join [channel, including leading symbol] [password if one is needed]" if you were asked to join a channel, or just "/list" if you're just looking around.
16. Here are some networks:
Freenode: Focuses on free and open-source software and other collaborative projects. Much more centralized and strictly governed than other IRC networks. (chat.freenode.net)
Rizon: A general-purpose IRC network. It aims to cultivate a free, fun atmosphere. Both entertainment channels like #4chan and #8chan as well as more serious channels like #bibanon are there. (irc.rizon.net)
EFnet: The original IRC network (not exactly, but close enough.) Has no ChanServ or NickServ, so keeping your nickname and channel yours will require some legwork. (irc.efnet.org)
IRCnet: A European split of EFnet. Has no ChanServ or NickServ, so keeping your nickname and channel yours will require some legwork. (open.ircnet.net)
Undernet: Has no NickServ, and registering channels is by application; channels will only be registered if they are active and have 5 regulars. (irc.undernet.net)
These are the biggest ones, but there are many small networks. You're liable to find a good conversation and many friends on any of them, so give them a try!
17. At this point you may be wondering how to have your client join a channel every time you log on. Your client should have an "execute upon connection" box. Type /join [channel] [password if one is needed] in it.

18. The first command we will look at is /join or /j. It has two parameters:
First. Channel to join. Mandatory. The initial symbol must be included.
Second. Channel key. Optional. If you happen to forget it, you may ask ChanServ using /cs GETKEY.
Note. A /join command may fail because the channel you join is an invite-only channel. Again, ask ChanServ for an invite.
19. Another command is /msg, or /m for short everywhere except Pidgin. It is used for private messages, (DO NOT CALL THEM DIRECT MESSAGES UNLESS YOU WANT TO SOUND LIKE YOU USE DISCORD WHICH YOU SHOULDN'T BECAUSE IT'S NOT FREE AND OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE.) It has two parameters:
First. The target. Mandatory.
Second. The message. Mandatory.
20. The target can be:
First. A user. The message might not get through because the user might not take PMs from unregistered users or have put you on /ignore.
Second. A channel. Channels are set by default not to accept messages from users that are not in them.
Third. A service. In most clients, messages to services do not appear in a separate window.
21. Another command is /quit. It disconnects you from IRC. The command takes one parameter: a quit message. It is optional to leave a quit message, but usually people will tell a joke in it. If none is given, it will default to "Leaving".
22. Another command is /part. It allows you to leave a channel without disconnecting altogether. It has two parameters:
First. A channel to leave. Optional, defaults to channel you are typing /part in.
Second. A part message. Optional, defaults to none.
23. Another two commands are /say and /query. They send a message normally as if no command were being used, and are good for two purposes:
First. Sending a message beginning with / without triggering a command.
Second. PMing someone and opening a separate window with that person (/msg doesn't do that.)
Note. For the first item, if you begin a message with ./ you will be understood.
24. For using /say and /query, remember that:
First. /say works on channels, while /query works on users.
Second. /say takes only the message as a parameter, while /query takes the same parameters as /msg except it is not possible to /query channels.
25. Another command is /invite. For invite only channels, this will be necessary if you want to get someone in. It has two parameters:
First. The user to be invited. Mandatory.
Second. The channel to be invited to. Optional, defaults to current channel.
Note. You have to be an op to use this. If you are already one and can't get in, use ChanServ.
26. Another set of commands are /op and /deop, /hop and /dehop, /voice and /devoice. They will save you a lot of effort if you don't want to use /mode or ChanServ.
Note. To op yourself when you have the right to do so, use ChanServ.
27. To punish people, use /ban and /unban, /kick, or /kickban or /kb if you want to do both. People who are under a plain /ban will not be allowed to send messages to the channel, but will still be able to view messages. If they leave, they can't rejoin for the duration of the ban. It takes one parameter, the mask, consisting of

Our decision to federate with nodes that do not appear to moderate content is not an endorsement of their policies or their user's policies. As the recent "stats" thread shows, 0chan removes sometimes substantial numbers of its own posts, and fair amounts of its peers.

One reason we refuse to allow hate speech on our own servers is because, morality and ethics aside, it's simply not a good look for the project. And if there are people who wish to use our server to spread hate, we would rather they stay the h*ll away.

Guilt by association plays commonly into fear tactics used by enemies of federation. But at the end of the day, it's important to keep in mind that (a) any anonymous person in the world can archive any public content, and (b) people who wish to stretch the limits of free speech will find a way to do so.

Multichan is a neutral technology. We plan to introduce more features into an web based admin panel to help people who are not UNIX wizards manage their boards, but we will not force any blocks/wordfilters/spam entries in the vanilla release. Free software is an important software, and we not only embrace but extend the ideals of free software by releasing multich into the public domain since the project began. This software belongs to no one, and it can be modified or used in any way you wish. You can even rebrand Multichan, put it on branded USB flash drives, and sell it for $200, we don't care.

The values of 0chan.vip (this individual instance) are expressed in our rules page linked at the top of the page. We do not want spam, hate speech, illegal content, or anything generally "obscene". This is a private server ran and moderated by an individual at his own expense. Not only does he do it for free, he pays to be a janny!

More importantly than dark thoughts one can take towards the Multichannel project (multich), we really do believe (rule #2) that federation is a means of establishing freedom, resisting censorship, allowing people to meet and share ideas they usually couldn't (barriers of time, space, class, culture, disability) ... our software is not fundamentally different than any other messageboard.

Just curious as I am re-writing my own personal from-scratch Anonymous forum and am stuck on the decision if users should all post as the infamous "Anonymous" user or allow them to create their own unique name that will be used with a Tripcode.

Some could say why not both and I somewhat agree because sometimes you have a lot to say but have input restrictions forcing users to post multiple times. In those cases, allowing the user to have a temporary reserved name gives validity to their posts; they're still Anonymous unless they're stupid and put their real name.

The answer could actually be both.
We're going to talk about animes on this video. I'm going to be doing the read the email kinda of video. A lot of people have been talking about anime recently. Rampantly there's this new thing in Linux where the kernel where it's easier to watch anime or something, I don't know anything about it. You'd have to ask someone else. 'Cause I don't care about anime, I don't care about no animes. Actually that's not what's going to be the video about.
Why why on so many occasions, speak about animes, speak about animes, explain my point using this email that I got.

Which makes no sense. In a comment you also said 'Video consumption [I guess watching videos/Youtube a lot] is also wasteful' which stuck with me because it was very honest, because games are art, it is not worthwhile to spend time with them, for you get nothing in return. But paintings are also art, does this mean it's not worthwhile to spend time with them movies, poems, literature. Or the more kind of art that matters like maybe there's some modernist art with be worthwhile. But then that raises the questions with what criteria is worthwhile watching arch should be." Etc. etc..

So this brings a good point. This compares Allison as a boy name, in the US it's a girl name, but I'm assuming this is a boy, has some, he has some, um, Portoguese last name.
So anime, they're art right? Well first of all, a lot of people are like "Well animes aren't art." But I'm actually cuck out on this and say, yes, animes are art. They'res lot of narrative involved, there's lot of graphical art involved, there's it actually takes a lot to put together an anime, sometimes it's a lot more than than a book. Now there's big corporations that make animes. So if animes are art, why would it be wrong/wasteful to consume that kind of art and not some other kinds of art.

Now let me give you an example ok. I once had a girldfriend ok. And she is notable because she read hours and hours of, she read these books in the middle of times and stuff. It's like one book hundreds of pages and there's like a bagillion volumes on the series. She was a big fan of Brandon Sanderson ok. Like these kind of books that I have. I have one wheel of time book, back here that I've never read K. It's like this but they're like thirty thousand of them in the series. She loved these stuff, loved these things, she would read lots of them. She would probably ran hours and hours of her life, spent hours of her life reading that kinda of stuff. Um now, that said, she wasn't weird because of it. That is, she didn't uh wanted to escape out unto social things because she wanted be home and read her books. She sorted if she had time she'd open a book and that was it. It wasn't like an addicting thing to her. Now if you asked her about it she'd talk about it, very glowingly about the book she read. But it wasn't even something something she wasn obsessively pushing on everyone. Where I feel like that is much the case in a lot of times with Anime. The one thing about anime that separates them from literature, even the consuming of this kind of literature might be/take the same amount of time, as watching a Corporate list or something like that, depending on how it's/how fast you read it a couple of animes. Uh um so, you know, I don't think it's just the time issue, the issue is more like Anime are crafted now days to be maximally addicting. They are just designed like the moe, and the characters, and the styles of the anime, incentivize you to conspire to incentivize to watch more and more. You have things like Crunchyroll, things like Netflix, that give you achievements to watching minute things in the anime. All of it is just putting you on a big hamster wheel, where you have this illusion of accomplishment where I got to go, you sort of feel like it's your job, like I have to get this done, you know. Uhm, so people will spend more and more time watching these animes not just, mind you it starts "Oh I have some time, let me just watch some anime because I'm bored". But it eventually devolves into "Oh I'm in a social event, oh I'm iat school, oh I'm at church, oh I'm somewhere else, and I'm thinking about watching anime. Life in coronavirus... is not so different for me or most of my friends. We're about 9 months into lockdown now. Most of my friends are NEET or work low-skill service jobs (gas station, fast food, grocery store). We spend the majority of our time at home anyway.
